Job Description
Encourages young learners to adopt a more positive attitude towards school and the learning process
Fosters good relationships with peers, parents, teachers, and other important people in the child’s life
Improves the communication skills of young learners, and helps them successfully develop effective decision-making strategies
Addresses developmental tasks, personal concerns, crises, peer conflicts, ill health, and offers helpful solutions
Aiding in teacher-student or peer-to-peer conflict resolutions
Academic support (i.e. organizational tasks, study practices, and “test-taking” pointers)
Setting goals and making wise decisions
Exploring future career options
Educating the public on child-related issues
Encouraging healthy peer relationships, coping strategies, and appropriate social skills
Teaching communication, problem-solving, and conflict resolution behaviors
Fostering a multicultural and diversity awareness
Helping elementary school student recognize their strengths and weaknesses
Providing individual and small-group counseling for young learners
Developing individual, family, and school crisis prevention and intervention programs
Consulting and collaborating with other medical and educational professionals to ensure that the student is receiving the best possible care and resources
Referring young learners to other professionals, when needed.
